The heart and soul of the village for 150 years


Christ Church nestles in the pretty village of Crowton, Cheshire in the diocese of Chester. The lovely Grade II listed church was built on the highest point of the village, designed by Sir John Loughborough Pearson whose other churches include St Augustine's in Kilburn and the cathedrals at Truro and Brisbane.

The church was consecrated on the 2nd November 1871 by William, Bishop of Chester and its three bells named Faith, Hope and Charity.  It has a wonderful set of stained glass windows which even boast a golden cocker spaniel at the nativity!

150

In November 2021 our church celebrates 150 years  in the heart of the village. During the year we are celebrating with everyone in the community. We hope to raise funds too for some modest improvements in the comfort and utility of the building for both congregation and others, like the local school, who use it . As well as contributing to the redecoration of the church, we will improve the seating with pew cushions, upgrade our sound system and commission a collage

Ellen Butterworth's little cocker spaniel became a part of the Crowton story in 1946 when he was placed in the stained glass nativity scene in the Lady Chapel.  Now you can too by sending us your stories, photographs and memories of Crowton and its church.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the changing advice and lockdown rules mean that all our plans are necessarily subject to a great deal of uncertainty.  We will try to keep our online information as up-to-date as possible, but we recommend checking back to this website regularly.  Any advance payments taken for specific events which are cancelled will be refunded in full 

The Crowton 150 Team

The Crowton 150 working party is chaired by lay reader and acting PCC Chairman, Anne Davidson Lund, and included church wardens Beryl Thorne and James Barber and PCC Treasurer, Robert Kinsey. PCC Secretary, Sue Williams joined them for the picture here.

There are more individuals on the working party and behind the scenes who are contributing a huge amount to the event. See if you can spot some of them elsewhere on the website! 

Since this picture was taken, our former Treasurer, Robert Kinsey has sadly passed away.  His long-standing contribution to the life of the church and his enthusiastic support for Crowton 150 were hugely appreciated and he is greatly missed.
